The Instagram grid trend, and the manual-crop problem with it

Real photos rarely have pixel dimensions that divide perfectly into your chosen grid size, and that's fine — tile dimensions are calculated by dividing the image's total size by your row and column count, rounded down, which in practice means at most a few leftover pixels get trimmed from one edge rather than creating uneven tile sizes. For a grid of any reasonable size (3x3, 4x4, and similar), this rounding is invisible once the tiles are back together.
