A real FFmpeg build compiled to WebAssembly strips the video stream entirely and re-encodes the audio track as MP3 at a high VBR quality setting (quality level 2), running the whole process inside your browser rather than on a remote server. This works regardless of what audio codec the source MP4 actually used internally, since the audio is decoded before being re-encoded to MP3.
The video stream is discarded during processing, not merely hidden in the output — the resulting MP3 contains only the audio, with no leftover video data taking up space.
